Do you like animals?

Contact your local animal shelter
Volunteer to groom, bathe, or exercise an elderly personís pet
Contact local nursing homes to see if you can bring your pet to visit
Contact a local wildlife preserve
Raise a Seeing-Eye dog for a blind person
   
Do you have a passion for the environment?
Adopt a park or trail to clean and help maintain as needed
Start a recycling program, any money from recycling can be pumped back into your effort or
given to a favorite charity

Volunteer to transport recycled products for neighbors, friends and family

Plant a community garden in a low-income housing project

   
Do you enjoy working with children?
Contact Boys and Girls Club, 4-H or your local Scouting office for opportunities to serve as a leader or
volunteer for special projects
Contact your local Big Brothers Big Sisters to serve as a youth mentor
Contact your local schools to find out what volunteer opportunities are available

Volunteer to read to children in the hospital or help them keep up with homework

   
Do you enjoy working with elderly?
Visit homebound elders or residents of nursing homes and read, play games, paint fingernails or write letters
Deliver meals to homebound elders
Grocery shop for homebound elders
Provide transportation to shop or to appointments
Volunteer to mow the yard or shovel snow for an elderly neighbor
   
Do you have a special talent that you could share?
Photograph a community event and submit your pictures to the local newspaper
Help build or repair homes or nonprofit facilities
Contact your local community theater or arts council
Help elderly hang pictures, wash windows, etc.
Teach an elderly person how to use a computer and ěsurfî the net
Provide office assistance to a church or other nonprofit agency
Contact your local library for volunteer opportunities
Contact your city or county government to find out what volunteer boards they have
On your own, or with a few friends, you can raise money for your favorite cause through bake sales,
car washes, and garage sales.
Organize a drive to collect books, magazines, toys, and clothes to donate to shelters or needy families
Share your athletic talent and interest as a coach or coaching assistant in sports or recreational activities.
