The Kansas Successful Youth Leaders program focuses on the Five Basics for students: one-on-one relationships with caring adults, a safe place to learn and grow, a marketable skill to use upon graduation, a healthy start and healthy future, and opportunities to give back to peers and community.

AmeriCorps members serve in Sedgwick and Grant counties in Kansas. AmeriCorps members connect students to volunteer mentors and tutors, facilitate community and service-learning opportunities for students, coordinate youth development and leadership opportunities, and support academic progress through a variety of settings including after school programs. Activities result in improved academics, behavior, school attendance, and graduation/promotion rates, and a reduction in suspensions/expulsions.
