  • Match funding with cash or in-kind contributions (for 1st and 2nd year the requirement is 35% and for the remaining years 50%)
  • Able to measure the performance of the program in each of three categories: needs/service activities, participant development, strengthening communities

Learn and Serve Grant FAQs
*Please see the Learn and Serve RFP for more FAQs and information regarding this grant.

What are the Match Requirements?
School- and community-based applicants must match with cash or in-kind contributions at least 35% of the project's total costs for year one and year two, and 50% each year (dollar for dollar) after two years. In determining your programs required match you must count all previous years of Learn and Serve funding even if they are not consecutive (i.e. if you received Learn and Serve funds in grant years 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 but have not submitted an application since then, the program would still be considered to be in their third year of funding and therefore the required match would be 50%). CNCS funds do count toward this requirement.

How do I develop performance measures?
All applicants will submit at least three complete performance measures in each of three categories: Needs and Service Activities, Strengthening Communities to Support Service Learning, and Participant Development. A complete performance measure for each category includes one output, one intermediate outcome, and one end outcome.

What portion of salary may be used for the program?
Only the portion that supports the time spent on the Learn and Serve Kansas program.  You must maintain timesheets that document the hours per day/per pay period devoted to Learn and Serve if you pay a portion with Learn and Serve funds OR if you use salary as a match.

What is the timeline of the application process?
Learn and Serve Kansas applications are due in March. Notifications of grant funding will be sent out in May for programs starting September of that year.

How are funds dispersed?
Learn and Serve funds are dispersed on a monthly basis. Programs are allowed to request funds one month in advance.
