Empowering all Kansans to meet community needs through service.

Established in 1993, the Kansas Volunteer Commission (KVC) serves to promote and develop volunteerism throughout Kansas by providing resources to local service organizations as well as individuals. By creating a strong network connecting Kansas nonprofit organizations, the KVC provides grant funding, training, and support. The Commission also administers federal funding to the AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve programs throughout the state while additionally providing assistance to AmeriCorps*National, AmeriCorp*VISTA, the National Senior Service Corps, and Learn and Serve America national service programs in Kansas.

As a governor appointed organization, the KVC endeavors to uphold the value of service and volunteering to all citizens of the state in order to effectively address community needs, respond to disasters, and inspire a commitment to community service among Kansans. Quarterly, the KVC recognizes those outstanding individual volunteers, organizations, and communities with the Governor’s Points of Light Award.

KVC Organization

The KVC is directly run by an administration who manages the Commission and its operations as advised by the Commissioners. Appointed by the Governor, the Commissioners come from all over the state representing different organizations, communities, and values. Currently, the KVC board contains 18 Commissioners and 5 ex-officio members all contributing to the mission of the KVC.

The KVC staff provides technical assistance to the AmeriCorps*Kansas and Learn and Serve Kansas programs. While supporting volunteerism in Kansas, they also focus on volunteer recognition.
